Barack: Are You Still Excited?

From Black Agenda Report:

“As the Democratic wing of America’s permanent ruling party convenes in Denver, Democrats have dominated the Congress for almost two years. There are more US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan than in 2006 but no Democratic deadline to end these useless, predatory wars. 1.1 million African Americans languish behind bars while the dispossession and exile of hundreds of thousands of blacks from the Gulf Coast begins its fourth year. The convention will be a media circus and will culminate with the co-branding of Barack Obama with Dr. King’s 1963 “I Have A Dream” speech is intended to establish deep symbolic references between the two in the minds of voters, despite their diametrically opposed politics.

Hope is a powerful drug indeed.”

Are YOU still excited?  If so, why?

  1. Very much so, because it’s now down to the brass tacks of pure identity politics. How could one witness this spectacle and not be excited?

  2. It is STRICTLY about identity politics — not even Associative Identity politics. In other words, it’s only about the look – and not the ideas or values or anything associated with that look.

Frankly, I would have been more excited to see the Republican Convention conversations and the discussions of how a Viagra Pimp Divorcee rolls with a Booty Queen and her Hootchie Mama Daughter. That shit’s like a Soap Opera.

    Republicans are true skanks.

  3. In all seriousness, I know (as do you) that we are only partly served by this manifestation of Identity Politics. Solutions aren’t in the talking even though they are born of the monologue-idea-dialogue-agreement-enrollment-action motif.

Things happen anywhere along that continuum. These are interesting times for God’s Son and the rest of we.

  4. I’ve lost some excitement but I’m still hanging in their. I find myself more disillusioned than ever with this country and I honestly didn’t think that was possible.

I understand that Black Agenda Report has some major issues with Obama, but sometimes I wonder about how they handle stuff. Anyway, we shall see what the future holds.

You are definitely done with being excited.
