Gonzales Gets Out Before Labor Day

The Washington Post is reporting (after the New York Times) that Alberto is letting the doorknob hit him where “the Good Lord” split him. All the heavy lifting will have to be done by others. Alberto Gonzales is getting out while the getting is bad. Hello private sector, here I come.

Embattled Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales has resigned from his post, according to an administration official, ending a controversial cabinet tenure that included clashes with Congress over the firing of nine U.S. attorneys and the nature of efforts to spy on U.S. citizens.

The official said Gonzales submitted a letter on Friday saying he had decided to step down, but the announcement was withheld until he met with President Bush at the president’s Crawford ranch. His resignation will be announced at a press conference scheduled at 10:30.

His testimony on issues like a federal wiretap program required follow-up explanations and was contradicted by documents or the statements of other federal officials.

The departure leaves Bush with a key cabinet opening nearing the end of his second term. As controversy around Gonzales mounted, so has speculation about possible replacements.

  1. Why do I get the feeling of a really bitter Gonzales saying to everybody as he leaves with that box, the infamous words Peerless Price told the Atlanta press…..”I hate Y’All!!!!”
