Hip Hop Culture Strikes Again

Listen to this from GoodFella, Henry Hill:
“I got blinded by that life. I thought it was the good life. Good
living, Cadillacs and diamond rings. In reality, it’s just jails,
institutions or death.”

(Ray Liotta depicted Henry Hill in the film.)

While hip-hop director Martin Scorcese continues to traffic in grotesque images of meso-Black-on-Black violence (Sicilians, Italians, Black Irish), his films produce tremendous profits and receive critical acclaim.  Scorcese’s depiction of the “Bling Bling” lifestyle in 1970’s New York among the Italo-Sicilian/Irish gangster elite framed the criminality of an entire generation.  He wasn’t done.

Good life, Cadillacs and diamond rings.
