Part II: Charting the Offensive Line – Titans vs. Steelers

The visuals: This play was one of several during the Titans game in which Ben Roethlisberger had time, a clean pocket, and clear passing lanes in Week 1.  For all the bluster about what the line was unable to do, Ben completed about 75% of his passes and threw for 363 yards.  Two receivers had … Continue reading »

Adrian Wilson: Fear and Loathing Over the Middle

The starting strong safety for the defending NFC champion Arizona Cardinals is Adrian Wilson.  He is a 6’3″, 225 pound athlete with tremendous talent and a penchant for delivering big blows in defense of the Cardinal end zone.  This season’s opening game vs. the San Francisco 49ers was no different.  Late in the first quarter, … Continue reading »

Fixing Jake Delhomme

I took a look at Jake Delhomme in action vs. the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday.  Much like his performance vs. the Arizona Cardinals in last seaon’s playoff game, Delhomme was terrible.  Last December, the heavily favored Carolina Panthers (12-4) were defeated by the Arizona Cardinals (9-7).  The Cardinals went on to face the Steelers … Continue reading »

The Marty Gene

Conservative offensive play has led to the demise of many an NFL coach.  Perhaps the best example of this principle has been the former coach of the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers:  Marty Schottenheimer.  During the regular, Schottenheimer was a genius compiling a won-loss record of 200-126 (.613).  His winning percentage … Continue reading »

Jonathan Babineaux’s Bone Crusher

Just one more from the Dolphin-Falcon game.  Whew! Not sure that necks are supposed to twist like that.  This was the quintessential 2-hit “fight.”  All Lousaka Polite heard was two hits: Babineaux hitting him — and himself hitting the floor.

Mike Peterson Brings the Pain

After this hit, the crowd went, “Oooooooh!” After the fumble, the crowd went crazy! What made it so dramatic was that #50 (Curtis Lofton) gets a nice hit on Fasano, but Fasano continues on.  Peterson, though, has him all lined up — and that was all she wrote.  It sounded like boom (Lofton hit), then … Continue reading »

Charting the Offensive Line: Steelers vs. Titans

A great deal has been made of the struggles of the offensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2008.  Last season, the line and QB Ben Roethlisberger were overwhelmed in Philadelphia by the Eagles.  Willie Parker was injured.  Rashard Mendenhall would be injured a few weeks later in Baltimore.  The team used 3rd-stringer Mewelde Moore … Continue reading »

Challenging and Fun Sports Trivia Quiz

Can you name the last Pro Bowl QB for each NFL Franchise? I couldn’t do it.  I completed 26 of the 31 items.  Take a shot.
